La storia del Borgo Castello è legata a doppio filo con quella della Reggia di Venaria Reale fin quando Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia volle destinare il borgo a uso privato nel 1859. I primi interventi risalgono ai primi anni del Settecento, quando il duca Vittorio Amedeo II incarica l'architetto Michelangelo Garove di realizzare una struttura destinata all'allevamento delle cavalle; successivamente, per volontà del re Vittorio Emanuele, questo divenne il suo luogo preferito per la caccia, perciò il Parco venne completamente murato e vennero costruiti fabbricati per far svolgere al sovrano le proprie attività. Nel 1860, su richiesta di Vittorio Emanuele II, iniziano i lavori di ingrandimento e allestimento degli appartamenti reali, ancor oggi conservati e visibili. Gli edifici sono tutti in cotto, come per Palazzo Carignano. Con la morte di Vittorio Emanuele II, il castello, il borgo e i luoghi per la caccia vennero acquistati dalla famiglia Medici del Vascello che la resero una azienda agricola di successo e rimase loro fino al 1976 quando la Regione Piemonte acquistò tutto il patrimonio; anch’esso dal 1997 è patrimonio dell’Umanità dell’UNESCO.

The history of Borgo Castello is linked to Reggia di Venaria Reale which was tied until Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy wanted to allocate to private village in 1859. The first works date back to the early eighteenth century, when the Duke Vittorio Amedeo II commissioned the architect Michelangelo Garove to create a structure destined to breeding mares; then, by the will of the King Vittorio Emanuele, it became his favorite place for hunting, so the park was completely walled and buildings were built to fullfil the sovereign needs. In 1860, at the request of Vittorio Emanuele II, begin the extension works and fitting out of the royal apartments, which are still visible today. The buildings are all brick, like Palazzo Carignano. With the death of Vittorio Emanuele II, the castle, the edge and the places for hunting were purchased by the family of Medici Vascello that made them a successful farming business and they remained until 1976 when the Piedmont Region acquired all the assets; also since 1997 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
