Villa Favorita
Ercolano (NA)

L’area del parco è tornata all’antico splendore grazie all’intervento della Fondazione Ville Vesuviane.

Villa Favorita in Ercolano, precisely Royal Villa of the Favorita, is one of the most sumptuous vesuvian villas of the 18th Century. It was built in 1768 by Ferdinando Fuga and in 1792 was bought by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon (as a tribute to his wife Maria Carolina of Austria) who decided to use it as royal residence and he call it “La Favorita”. The Villa was restored and embellished, and the park was expanded to the sea; it has an unusual plan (as a “T”) for eighteenth-century villas, which breaks the correspondence of the major portals and their courtyards, with gardens, it develops a baroque game of angles, with the facade on the park that extends until sea. The property also belongs the Joust and the chapel open to the public in 1823; the house of Mosaics and coffee house. With the return of the Bourbons, the villa was again restored and redecorated by Enrico Alvino, on the will of Ferdinand II. The decadence of Villa began with the arrival of the Savoy and when the area was divided; in 1893 the villa was bought by the Princess of Santobuono who kept it until 1936 trying to contain the decline. The park area has returned to its ancient wonder thanks to the intervention of the Foundation Vesuvian Villas.
